A little History about EAMSPA
The Edmonton Area Mixed Slow Pitch Association (EAMSPA) was incorporated under the Societies Act on September 24, 1987, but, in fact has been in operation since approximately 1981, making it one of the oldest leagues in the Edmonton Area.
At the height of popularity, the league boasted a membership of 72 teams (9 divisions of 8 teams each) but in recent years has hosted between 42 and 48 teams per year.
One of the founding principles of the league was that it be "fun" and this value remains a common theme today.
In the beginning, the league did not have paid umpires, meaning that teams were required to umpire their own games. As the league grew, so did its "sophistication" and umpires eventually became part of the mix.
We are currently the largest user of City diamonds and Umpires, which requires careful planning and budgeting.
While sponsorship helps with defraying costs, EAMSPA is proud of the fact that we have managed to keep registration costs amongst the lowest in the City, with our prestigious year end (semi-formal) banquet and awards presentations as the culmination of the year's efforts.
Without the support of the teams and countless hours volunteered by a hard working Executive, the League would not exist today.
Now let's PLAY BALL!!
